Tyrone Snowden Woods, Sr., Senior Chief Petty Officer, US Navy SEAL (ret.), died Sept. 12 while defending the U.S. Diplomatic Post in Benghazi, Libya. He was 41. The brave actions of Tyrone and his SEAL teammate, Glen Doherty, saved the lives of thirty staff when the two SEALs stepped into the breach to protect the compound as it was attacked by insurgents.
Tyrone and Glen left their secure annex location, some distance away, to make their way to the mission compound where they were able to gather the diplomatic staff and escort them to a "safe" house.

It was during a second, more violent attack that Tyrone and Glen were killed.
Tyrone was born in 1971 in Portland, Ore., and spent his childhood years in Long Creek, Ore., Anacortes, Wash., and Oregon City, Ore. Growing up, he was an inquisitive, busy, fearless child.
