One of downtown Sarasota's oldest restaurants has been renamed and guests are now being served the new menu.

As previously reported, Edward Zaki and partner Alexandre Gosselin, executive chef, recently purchased El Greco Cafe and have renamed it Avli Mess Hall.

They're updating the popular Mediterranean cafe concept.

The dinner menu features main courses such as the Greek dishes moussaka ($18), pastitsio ($18), melitzana linguine ($18), lamb shank ($22) and lamb chops ($29) as well as grilled salmon with Greek yogurt ($22), seafood linguini ($23) and a catch of the day.

Avli is also serving 10 and 14 -inch pizzas or stromboli such as "papafeta" with feta, mushroom, kalamata olives, onion, pepperoni, marina and mozzarella ($13 for 10-inch, $17 for 14-inch).
