American Episcopal bishop (born 1959/1960)
Mariann Edgar Budde (; born 1959) is an American prelate of the Episcopal Church. She has served as Bishop of Washington since November 2011.
Before being elected Washington's first female diocesan bishop, she served 18 years as rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Early life and education
Mariann Edgar Budde was born in 1959 in New Jersey,[1][2] to William Edgar and Ann Björkman (1931–2024).[3] Her mother was Swedish American.[4][3] Budde grew up in the Flanders section of Mount Olive Township, New Jersey, attending West Morris Mount Olive High School, and also in Colorado, following her parents' separation.[5][6]
She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Rochester[5] in 1982,[7] earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in history magna cum laude.[8] She received her Master of
